The Story of Cachaça: A Brazilian Heritage

Cachaça is more than just a drink; it is a symbol of Brazil’s history and culture. Its origins date back to the colonial period when the Portuguese introduced sugarcane. During the gold rush in Minas Gerais, cachaça became popular among workers enduring the cold of the Serra do Espinhaço, becoming an essential part of daily life and local traditions.

From the beginning, its consumption was marked by controversy and resistance. As Portuguese wine consumption declined, the Crown decided to tax cachaça, sparking revolts and solidifying it as a symbol of opposition to Portuguese rule. During the Inconfidência Mineira, cachaça became an emblem of freedom and national pride.

Today, cachaça is the second most consumed alcoholic beverage in Brazil, with an annual production of approximately 1.4 billion liters. Minas Gerais stands out as the country’s largest producer, responsible for 60% of Brazil’s artisanal cachaça, distinguished by its refined production process, which discards impurities (head and tail) and preserves only the purest, most flavorful part (heart).

The Story of Cachaça Germana

Cachaça Germana was born in the heart of Minas Gerais, Brazil, over 100 years ago, immersed in tradition and crafted with the finest ingredients. Founded by Sérgio Caetano, a Minas Gerais muleteer (tropeiro), the cachaça was created with the region's roots and culture. From the very beginning, it was made with a commitment to quality and authenticity, reflecting the rich history of artisanal cachaça production. Sérgio and his family sought to create a drink that was not only a part of Brazil's cultural legacy but also a symbol of excellence in every drop.

Over the years, Cachaça Germana has become one of Brazil's most renowned cachaças, celebrated for its smoothness, complex flavors, and unique distillation process. It is still made artisanal today in copper pot stills, using traditional methods, including aging in select barrels, which gives it its distinct character. The company has always remained true to its roots, preserving the family traditions passed down through generations, while also innovating to create cachaças that can be enjoyed by enthusiasts worldwide. Today, Cachaça Germana continues to carry on its century-old legacy, proudly sharing Brazil's rich heritage with the world.

Farm Germana

Located in Nova União, Minas Gerais the Farm Germana is where the magic of our cachaça happens.  Here, every detail of the production process is carried out with care and respect for our cultural roots, using methods passed down through generations.

The farm is the origin of Cachaça Germana, where the sugarcane is cultivated, distillation is done in copper still with direct fire, and aging occurs in select barrels, ensuring the unique quality and flavor that have made it renowned throughout Brazil and the world. Surrounded by lush nature and the serenity of the Minas Gerais countryside, Farm Germana is a true heritage that reflects the essence of Brazil: a blend of history, culture, and excellence.

Artisanal Production

Cachaça Germana is made artisanally, preserving traditions at every stage of the process. The distillation takes place in a copper still with direct fire, essential for ensuring the smoothness and unique flavor of the cachaça, respecting techniques passed down through generations.

Master Blender Walter Caetano is responsible for maintaining Germana's quality and consistency, creating cachaças with complex and smooth flavors that captivate connoisseurs.

A unique tradition is the use of "empalhadeiras", who cover the bottles with banana straw. This practice, created by Sérgio Caetano, not only protected the bottles during transport by mule-drawn cart. The straw are sourced responsibly and serve a practical purpose in both the production process and environmental care.

Additionally, the farm uses sugarcane bagasse to fuel the fire directly in the copper pot still, maintaining an eco-friendly and sustainable approach to the production process.

Every detail in the production of Cachaça Germana reflects a passion for quality and respect for the roots of Minas Gerais, making it a true artisanal masterpiece.
